I create and lead learning systems that drive results at any scale.

Previously at Amazon, leading teams that impacted more than 1 million employees.

Case Studies

Scaling Personalized Interview Practice with AI

To strengthen candidate experience and improve hiring quality.

Traditional interview training happens weeks before it's needed. This AI simulation delivers realistic, personalized practice right before the interview, closing the gap between training and on the job performance.

Differentiating a Product Through Digital Credentialing

To turn user skills into a customer acquisition channel and establish a competitive edge in a crowded market.

When competitors offered no way for users to prove their skills, Miro Verified changed that: a digital credentialing program built from scratch and launched in 4 months.

Standardizing How Amazon Prepares Candidates at Global Scale

To create a consistent candidate experience and free recruiters to focus on high-touch, relationship-driven work that couldn't be scaled.

A candidate prep program covering 40+ roles across early career hiring, built with recruiters globally, resulting in 95-96% satisfaction rates across nearly 8K survey responses.

Eliminating Manual Technical Work for Learning Designers

To give learning designers back the hours spent on repetitive code and open up what they could build.

A suite of six free tools built for Articulate Rise creators, turning hours of manual technical work into minutes.

Leading by Example to Raise the Bar for What Teams Build

Built to show learning teams that immersive, story-driven experiences were possible with the tools they already had.

A fully immersive bloodborne pathogen simulation built inside Articulate Rise, complete with character selection, audio storytelling, branching decisions, hidden hotspots, and a custom point-tracking system.

Scaling Scenario-Based Learning with AI-Generated Content

To reduce customer escalations by coaching café leads in the flow of work, before problems happen.

Instead of sending café leads to a course, this app meets them at the Point of Sale (POS) system at the start of every shift with a fresh, AI-generated scenario based on real store data, with no manual content creation required.

Speaking & Writing

My Book

Title coming soon

Publishing with ATD.

Learning designers don't get a playbook. This book is the next best thing. A practical guide for the gray areas, unclear direction, changing priorities, and figuring out what to build when everyone tells you what they want but not what they need. Centered around stories from me and practitioners across the industry, with try-it activities you can apply the same day you read them.

About

Mel Milloway

I'm Mel, based in Seattle, Washington.

I work backwards from business problems. Usually there's a recurring challenge somewhere, something that keeps happening, and the question I'm asking is whether a product or system could solve it at scale. That's been true whether I'm leading a team or building something myself, and I've done both.

Outside of work I make things. I design 3D printed and laser-cut jewelry inspired by art and history, melting clocks, broken Roman columns, that kind of thing. I also ran a 3D printing business for a few years, did the market research, made the products, and sold over 3.5K of them. That's the part I'm probably most proud of.

I live with a Brussels Griffon named Ziti (like the pasta). The breed allegedly inspired the Ewoks. When I'm not making something I'm watching bad reality TV or lost in a fantasy novel.
